On our first trip to Morocco in January 2016, we were delighted to find that cats rule the medinas. Well, the kitties are confident they’re in charge, anyway. During our days in Tangier, Fes and Marrakech, I tried to photograph as many of these independent feline ambassadors as I could. The odds of getting a good shot improved greatly when there was food in the offing, of course.
The cats did allow a few select dogs in their midst, with the stipulation they be confined indoors or properly restrained by their human. In the tranquil countryside beyond the bustle of Fes, the cat-dog dynamic was balanced and peaceful in the Berber village where we spent an entire day. More accurately, though, the cat-dog-chicken-cow-sheep-mule-horse dynamic was balanced and peaceful. I would be remiss if I didn’t share a few non-feline pics, too.
