The Kitchen
By far, the most ambitious and costly part of our project: Distinctive Home Solutions handled painting walls & cabinets; custom- built carpentry for drawer reconfiguration, wainscotting and island extension build-out; plumbing & electrical updates, granite countertops (by Classic Kitchen & Granite); new appliances (Lowes). We did the lighting above the island (created with inexpensive component parts purchased on Amazon), as well as the backsplash, ourselves – both VERY economically.
Dining Room
Paint, new flooring, and electrical work to wire the beautiful Syrian lamp we bought in Morocco.
Living Room
Paint, new flooring, and some sweet Moroccan flair.

Paint, new flooring (that parquet was awful), new carpet on stairs.
Great Room
Just new flooring – we actually bought the sectional from the previous owner.
Guest Bathroom
Paint, new flooring, same granite as kitchen, and a fabulous copper sink.
Basement
Paint (lime green and black!!) and inexpensive DIY bar updates. From drab to fab.
Upper-Level Landing/Loft
New flooring and painting of stair railing/bannister.
Patio & Pool
Deck paint, garden bed, fire table, patio furniture and outdoor rugs.
Our back yard continues to evolve. We are tackling big projects every year or two. In 2018, we replaced the nasty falling-down, useless fence with a shiny new model. This year (2020), the rotting, lawsuit-waiting-to-happen 25’x40′ deck will be ripped out and replaced with a combo of a smaller deck with a stamped concrete patio step-down on two sides. Here’s my initial deck design
Sherwin-Williams Paint Colors
SherwiWilliams has an awesome online color visualization tool – if you are planning to paint, it is a huge help when choosing colors and color combinations.
